Envirobro offers specialist water use licensing services for municipalities’ water and sewerage infrastructure and bridges over rivers/streams/wetlands. Our mining and industrial clients also enjoy specialist services for licensing of water, wastewater and waste activities or facilities associated with their operations. Envirobro offers water use licensing services for activities or operations including:

  • Groundwater and surface water abstraction
  • Mine workings dewatering
  • Storage of water (e.g. reservoirs and dams)
  • Municipal wastewater (sewage) treatment plants and effluent discharge into rivers/streams
  • Industrial wastewater treatment plants and discharge of effluents into rivers
  • Irrigation with wastewater or effluents from a wastewater treatment plant
  • Industrial and mine waste and residue (e.g. tailings) disposal facilities
  • Mining and industry pollution control dams and return water dams
  • Bridges and pipeline over rivers/streams/wetlands
  • Activities and structures within 1:100 year floodlines and wetland regulated area

Groundwater studies/investigations are a key requirement for development applications such as townships, industries and mining, as well as agriculture. In particular, it is a minimum requirement for water use licence applications associated with groundwater abstraction, mine dewatering and groundwater contamination remediation.

  • Groundwater occurrence and aquifer characterization/classification
  • Geohydrological modeling
  • Mine workings fissure water influx determination and dewatering
  • Geophysical surveys for strategic location of abstraction boreholes
  • System integration for borehole drilling and development
  • System integration for test pumping and determination of aquifer parameters and sustainable yields
  • Groundwater monitoring (levels and quality) and water balance maintenance

Envirobro’ specialist hydrologists conduct studies into catchment and runoff assessments using recognised methods. These assist in aspects including determination of attenuation facilities and sizing thereof, as well as positioning and sizing of pollution control and storm water dams in mining and industrial complexes. Floodline assessments are done in relation to water resource regulations for mines and township development by-laws, as well as watercourse situation assessments.

  • Surface water and floodline assessments for mines and industrial complexes
  • Surface water and floodline assessments for residential and other developments
  • Water quality assessment as part of a surface water study
  • Catchment studies and management plans

Integrated Water and Waste Management Plans (IWWMPs) are a minimum requirement for water use licence applications for mines and industries. They enable assessment of a project in relation to its interaction with the water cycle, and position the mine or industry for technically sound, socially acceptable and financially viable best practices for water and waste management. The IWWMP includes:

  • Water use and waste audits
  • Industrial and mine water balances (potable water, process and wastewater, groundwater, surface water, etc.)
  • Water and wastewater monitoring (flows, levels, quality)
  • Industrial or mine water management, treatment and reclamation
  • Stormwater management, pollution control dams, residue deposits
  • Materials balance and waste management program
  • Water resource impact assessment (including geochemical assessments) and management plan

Envirobro’ team of wastewater and water resources specialists apply holistic approaches and solutions to wastewater treatment. Sound wastewater treatment solutions and legislative compliance renders effluents suitable for reuse, ecological sustainability and water safety.

  • WWTP licensing and process audits
  • Compilation of Water Quality Management Reports for WWTP licensing
  • WWTW process design
  • Wastewater characterisation and quantification
  •  Industrial and mine water management
  • Sludge characterisation and management
  • Monitoring (flows, qualities, etc.)

Recognising the impact and risk of waste management on natural resources, Envirobro specialists developed a keen interest in waste management. Involvement has evolved from mainly assessing the impact of waste on water resources to preventative waste management planning with reference to the waste management hierarchy throughout project or development life cycles. Envirobro has now capacitated itself for participation in waste management projects.

  • Waste site licensing
  • Remediation of contaminated land
  • Compilation of Integrated Waste Management Plans
  • Waste characterisation and quantification
  • Waste prevention, minimization and recycling strategies
  • Waste treatment and disposal strategies and implementation
  • Waste disposal site compliance monitoring
  • Groundwater and surface water monitoring in waste facilities

Envirobro provides the following services in line with regulatory requirements for various developments and operations:

  • Environmental Impact Assessments and Basic Assessments
  • Environmental Management Plans and Programs
  • Environmental audits
